Activity During WWII

Served in the 339th Infantry Regiment, 100th Infantry Division, in the European Theater of Operations. He was awarded his first Purple Heart for wounds received December 8, 1944 in France. On December 9, 1944 he was awarded the Silver Star when his squad was attacked and the platoon leaders killed. He assumed command and led his platoon survivors to safety. During the exchange, he was wounded and received another Purple Heart. For heroic action near Spitzberg, France, he was awarded the Bronze Star with Combat "V".
