Activity During WWII

Served in the U.S. Navy from April 17, 1942 through January 22, 1946. Became a Gunner's Mate aboard various Merchant Marine ships which sailed both the European and Pacific theaters of operation. They included the SS Mormachrio, SS Michael Dupin, SS ZE Bullion Pike (collision on the Hudson River), SS Morrison R. Waite (hit by kamikaze in Leyte Gulf in 1944), SS William Paga (collision off Terneuzen in 1944) and SS Albot L. Mills (hit a mine off Dubrovnik in 1945). Spent some time in Naval Base Hospital, Oran, Algeria.
