Activity During WWII

As Major General, he served as Commander of the San Francisco Port of Embarkation. This was the main port responsible for the support units in the Southwest Pacific Area, through which all troops and supplies to the theater flowed. On August 1944, he became commander of the South Pacific Base Command and then commander of the Army Service Command in the Philippine Islands. Received the Distinguished Service Medal.
