He was a Platoon Sergeant in Troop E, 7th Cavalry. He was twice wounded on 17 December 1944 and 22 December 1944 in the Philippine Liberation Campaign on Leyte, Philippine Islands. He is the recipient of the Purple Heart Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster.
