Activity During WWII

In 1940, while serving as a volunteer ambulance driver with the American Field Service, he was captured by German troops and held for six weeks. Participated in the D-Day landings and won the Legion of Merit and the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with five battle stars and two arrowheads. Served with the Office of Strategic Services in Belgium in 1945.
