Activity During WWII

Brigadier General. He was an air power pioneer. Commanded training bases in the United States 1942-1943. He helped General Claire Chennault establish the Flying Tigers in China, established U.S. India-China Ferry Command and met and escorted General Joseph Stillwell out of Burma. Chief of Staff and later commander of the 10th Air Force in China-Burma-India theater of war, then made chief of staff of the 13th Air Force. Killed in an airplane crash near Medford, Oregon on September 20, 1944 while commander of the 317th Wing of the Fourth Air Force.
