After the attack on Pearl Harbor, he served on the USS Ralph Talbot, operating out of Pearl Harbor for 2 1/2 years. He participated in many of the Pacific campaigns including the Battle of Midway. In 1944, he began his engineering career aboard the battleship USS Massachusetts and served during the bombardment of Guam. Iwo Jima, Okinawa and the Philippine Islands. Received the Legion of Merit.
