After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, she went to work at the Naval Air Station on Alameda, California. She was among the first women to do war work there. A photographer happened to be going through and zeroed in on her. She was standing in front of an industrial lathe wearing a polka dot bandana. An iconic poster was created from the photograph. It became known as 'Rosie the Riveter' and proclaimed, We Can Do It!
