Rank: Private First Class. He was inducted into the United States Marine Corps October 19, 1942 at Chicago, Illinois, with recruit training assigned to the First Recruit Battalion Training Regiment; Marine Corps Base in San Diego, California. Upon his graduation from Boot Camp, he was transferred to Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, California for combat training. Served as a Rifleman with the First Marine ‘the Old Breed’ Division in the Western Pacific Theater of Operations, assigned to Mike Company ‘Heavy Weapons’, Third Battalion and First Marine Regiment. His division participated in the amphibious assault on the Island of Peleliu (Battle Dates: September 15-November 27, 1944) Code Name: Operation Stalemate II. Killed in action Saturday, September 16, 1944 during combat operations against the Imperial army forces, and buried in the U.S. armed forces battlefield cemetery on Peleliu. After the cessation of hostilities with Japan, the family of this Marine received his remains for burial. He was laid to rest at the Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson, Missouri. This American Patriot was awarded the Purple Heart posthumously, for his ultimate sacrifice in defense of his country.
