Major General. While in Panama, at the outbreak of the war, he wrote the jungle warfare training manual, which was used to prepare U.S. troops for service in the Pacific. He took command of Camp Crowder, Missouri and signal corps. He organized two schools, one for basic signal courses and one for training signal units. The invention of radar brought state of the art to the signal corps. Received the Army Distinguished Service Medal.
