Activity During WWII

A naval aviator that became a flying ace with five aerial victories. Commanded the Marine Fighting Squadron 112 (VMF-112). Defended Henderson Field at Guadalcanal, where he led eight planes against 22 Japanese bombers that were trying to bomb Henderson Field. His squadron repelled the attack and shot down planes attacking American ships. He was awarded the Navy Cross for his actions. He was later assigned to the Tenth Army and took part in the Battle of Okinawa.
