Tail Gunner aboard B-29 Superfortress serial #44-69811 tail code: Circle X-7, nicknamed 'Tinny Anne' assigned to 1st Bomber Squadron, 9th Bombardment Group (VH), 313th Bomb Wing, XXI Bomber Command, 20th Air Force stationed at North Field on Tinian in the Mariana Islands; Pacific Theatre of Operations. During the night of 27-28 May 1945, nine B-29 Superforts are dispatched from the 9th Bomb Group to lay mines in the Straits of Shimonoseki, between Honshu and Kyushu, Japan. B-29 'Tinny Anne' is hit by Triple-A flak over the Moji port area of Fukuoka, and crashes in Mount Yahazuyama. Post-war it was learned that he had bailed out of B-29 #44-69811, was held as a Prisoner of War, and then later executed during human vivisection experiments by the Japanese medical faculty at Kyushu Imperial University.
