Before he was called into the Army on August 20, 1942, he attended Technician Institute where he studied the Theory and Practical applications required for Aviation Riveting. He also attended Police School. He was Crew Chief Mechanic connected with the 8th Air Force, 532nd Bombing Squadron. He served overseas in Normandy and Northern France. He was honorably discharged from the service on September 30, 1945, at Fort Dix, New Jersey.
