She graduated from Central Islip School of Nursing in June, 1940, as a Registered Nurse. Before entering the service she was employed as head nurse at Central Islip State Hospital. On September 1, 1942, she volunteered for war service. Her first assignment was to Camp Upton as Supervisor of Nursing. She assisted in the opening of Mason General Hospital at Brentwood, New York, and also the Annex at Deer Park. She left Mason General Hospital for Camp Stoneman, California. In December 1944 she was assigned to the 31st General Hospital in the New Hebrides, South Pacific, and then transferred to the Philippine Islands. En route, she was on temporary duty in Hollandia, Dutch New Guinea. Because of illness, she returned to the U.S. in July 1945, and was hospitalized in San Francisco and Ayer, Massachusetts. In March, 1946, she was sent to Fort Sam Houston, San Antonia, Texas, where she was discharged on June 24, 1946.
