Served aboard the USS Fomalhaut AK-22 during which time the ship received 5 Battle Stars for support roles in the following Pacific Battles. Initial Marine landings at Guadalcanal and Tulagi on 7 August 1942. Observed the Battle of Savo Island from anchored position 9 August 1942. Provided support for the Battle of Okinawa, as well as a number of other amphibious landings over a period of 18 months.
