Activity During WWII

While still a student at Central Islip School he enlisted in the Army Air Force on September 23, 1942, and for some time was attached to Squadron 922, Flight C. After his basic training at Atlantic City, New Jersey and at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey, he left for overseas, January 14, 1943. In Tunisia, Africa, he was assigned to the 12th Army Air Forces, where he continued advanced training in preparation for the invasion of Italy. On reaching Italy, his unit flew missions, dropping supplies to Tito's men in Yugoslavia and the the underground in France. After the Italian invasion, his unit returned to Northern Italy to drop additional supplies to the American Fifth Army. In April of 1945 he returned to the United States for a Furlough. Following the termination of the European War he was honorably discharges on June 30, 1945.
