Rank: Private First Class. Inducted into the United States Army January 31, 1941 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Served in the European Theater of Operations assigned to the 331st Infantry Regiment, 83rd Infantry ‘Thunderbolt’ Division attached to the U.S. Third Army. His division participated in the invasion of Germany’s Fortress Europe, D-Day, June 6, 1944 ‘Operation Overlord’. The division went ashore on Omaha Beachhead June 18, 1944 the assault on the German Army defenses. Killed in action Wednesday, July 19, 1944 during a combat engagement in the Normandy hedgerows ‘Battle of Normandy’, with burial in a battlefield cemetery in France. After the cessation of hostilities in Europe, the family of this Soldier requested that he be buried at Normandy American Cemetery Location: Colleville-sur-Mer, France. This American Patriot was awarded the Purple Heart posthumously, for his ultimate sacrifice in defense of his country.
