Served in the Pacific and was injured on three different occasions. He was injured in the leg at the Northern Mariana Islands. On February 21, 1945, he suffered a concussion blast while fighting at the Battle of Iwo Jima and after returning to battle he received another concussion. Received the Purple Heart.
