Served as company commander of the 517th Parachute Infantry Regiment that jumped into Southern France as part of Operation Dragoon. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was severely injured and evacuated to England. Upon recovery, he rejoined the 517th Parachute Infantry Regiment and assumed command of the 3rd Battalion until the end of hostilities in Europe.
