He was called into Army service February 15, 1943 and placed with Company K of the 168th Infantry. Overseas he was a rifleman. During the later part of 1943 he was Italy, where he engaged in the invasion battles of Naples-Foggia, Northern Apennines, Rome-Arno and Po Valley. His awards include the European-African- Middle-Eastern Service Ribbons, the Good Conduct Medal, the Purple Heart for wounds received on December 4, 1943 in the battles of Pantano, the Combat Infantryman Badge, and four Battle Stars. On October 6, 1945, he was honorably discharged from Fort Dix, New Jersey.
