He enlisted in the National Guard on February 24, 1941. He was assigned to the Military Police and was first with 101st Military Police, then with the 713th, and later the 509th, all of which were affiliated with the First Army at the end of the war. He left the United States in December of 1943 and landed in Ireland early in 1944. He went through the Normandy, France and the Rhineland Campaigns as a colonel's chauffeur and military policeman. he holds the following Medals: European Theater of Operations Ribbon with four stars, the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal with a clasp. He was discharged on October 1, 1944 at Fort Dix New Jersey, with a total of eighty-nine points to his credit.
