He enlisted April 8, 1942 in the Medical Corps of the Army. For a period he was stationed in Australia. He went to New Guinea with the 10th Portable Surgical Hospital, which served with the 32nd Division in the Papuan Campaign and with the 41st and 24th Divisions in the New Guinea Campaign. upon his return to the United States, he was stationed at Lowell General Hospital, Fort Devens, Massachusetts from January 1945 until his discharge from the Army on March 19, 1946. He holds the Distinguished Unit Citation and two Battle Stars.
