Activity During WWII

He enlisted in the Army on April 9, 1945. With the infantry, he trained at Camp Croft, South Carolina. During his time of service he won a reputation as a lightweight boxer, after winning matches at Fort Dix, New Jersey and Camp Croft. While at Ft. Devens, Massachusetts, he decided to re-enlist in the Regular Army for one year. He spent the year at Fort Jackson, South Carolina where he was stationed with the 394th Field Artillery as a battery clerk. He attended administrative school for three months learning clerical work and continued his boxing. He became a Corporal on July 1, 1946. He was discharged at Fort Bragg, North Carolina on December 10, 1946.
