He served two enlistments in the Army before his induction in WWII. After his induction on April 6, 1942, his training took him to Camp Chaffee, Arkansas, where he was assigned to Company C of the 68th Armored Regiment. He took part in the assault landings on Saipan in June 1944 and on Tinian, as well as the invasions of Leyte and Okinawa. Training was given to him in Company B, 79B of the Amphibian Tractor Battalion for the Invasion of Tokyo. On September 29, 1945, he left Tokyo for the United States. He was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation and other medals, including three Battle Stars and Bronze Arrowhead. Having received 75 points he was discharged October 20, 1945, at Fort Dix, New Jersey.
