Served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Laurens APA-153, an attack transport ship, in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He participated in the invasion of Lingayen Gulf in northern Luzon in the Philippine Islands and the Battle of Okinawa, among other campaigns. He attained the rank of Yeoman Second Class and earned the following honors: Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 2 stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one star, Philippine Presidential Unit Citation, American Campaign Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal with Asia clasp, and WWII Victory Medal.
