Entered service on April 14, 1944. After a short stay at Camp Upton, New York, he was sent to Camp Barkley, Texas. and after 17 weeks of basic training there, was transferred to Fitzsimons General Hospital in Denver, Colorado for training as a medical technician. Further training was taken at Camp Haan, California. After furlough he left for overseas on April 17, 1945. At Iwo Jima, he served as a front-line medic and at Okinawa served as a medic until April 1946, when he returned to the United States. He was awarded three Battle Stars, the American Campaign Medal, the Army of the Occupation Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the WWII Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. On May 19, 1946, he was discharged at Fort Dix, New Jersey.
