he joined the U.S. Army and was sworn in at the Military Recruitment Center at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas. He received his basic training at Fort Polk, Louisiana. He received additional training at various bases and was shipped out of New York City for Liverpool, England. After additional training at Liverpool he was transferred to the 84th Division of the 334th Regiment (Railsplitters). He fought through France, the Battle of the Bulge and the Rhineland into Berlin. He was told to take all the photos he wanted that the world would not believe what the concentration camps looked like. After the surrender of Germany he was shipped back to the United States and then to Fort Sam Houston where he was released with his honorable Discharge. He received many awards and commendations for his service to his country in the war effort.
