He was drafted into the U.S. Army on May, 24, 1944. He was sworn into the Army on May 23, 1944. He attended basic training at Fort Polk Louisiana. He applied to be discharged from the military due to the number of dependents and he was needed at home. This application was approved and he was discharged from the Army on 15 December 1944 with the rank of Technician 5th Grade.
