On 3 October, 1940 he was sworn into the military at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas. After basic training and additional training he was assigned to the 676th Squadron of the 444th Bomb Group. He saw duty in Central Burma, India-Burma, Sumatra and the air offensive over Japan. With the surrender of Japan he was returned to the United States. He was forwarded to Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio to be released with an Honorable Discharge. During his tours he received the following commendations: Distinguished Unit Badge, American Theater Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.
