He enlisted in the Army Air Corps November 13, 1939 at Mitchell Field, Long Island, New York. He was attached to the Second Air Base Squadron and also the Fifth Bomb Squadron. He was transferred to Langly Field, Virginia, and then to Borinquen Field, Puerto Rico. He was there for two years when he was promoted to Corporal. The 44th Bombing Squadron to which he was attached moved to South Pratt Air Base, Kansas. On July 15, 1943, when on leave at his home for the first time in three years, he died in an automobile accident within a short distance of his house.
