Activity During WWII

Served from 1942 to 1945. Commander of Company K, 3rd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment. Fought in the Battle of Bataan and survived the Bataan Death March and surrendered on Corregidor in 1942. Taken as a Prisoner of War and loaded onto the Enoura Maru, considered a Japanese hell ship because of the deplorable conditions. It left the Philippine Islands for Takao in Japanese Formosa on New Year’s Day 1945. It was bombed during an American air raid on January 9, 1945, and he was then loaded onto the Brazil Maru bound for Moji, Japan. He died January 30, 1945, while in transit. His body was cremated and ashes spread out.
