Activity During WWII

On March 31, 1942, he entered the U.S. Army Coast Artillery under the Selective Service Act at Fort Tilden, New York. For his basic training with the Battery G, 7th Coast Artillery, he was transferred to Fort Eustis, Virginia, where he remained several months. He returned to New York and served as radar and machine gun operator at the anti-aircraft base, New York City. In 1943, he was transferred to Camp Ruckner, Alabama and entered the Field Artillery in preparation for overseas operations. He was taken ill after training and entered the hospital where he remained until August 14, 1944. He received his discharge at the Veteran's Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.
