He was inducted in the United States Army on 24 November 1943. He had basic training at Fort Polk, Louisiana. He was assigned to Company F, 345th Infantry, Regiment, 87th Division in the European Theater of Operations until 31 May 1946 with the surrender of Germany. He was returned to New York where he was placed on a troop train bound for Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas where he was released with his Honorable Discharge. During his tour of duty he received the following commendations: The Good Conduct medal, the WWII Victory Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Victory Medal. He was released and returned to his hometown of Laredo, Texas.
