Activity During WWII

Enlisted December 16, 1941; Discharged April 1947; After boot camp at San Diego Naval Air Station, he was assigned to Alameda Naval Air Station in aerography (weather observation and forecasting). Joined USS California late 1943 as aerographer's mate 2nd Class. Participated in activities in Saipan, Guam, Tinian, Leyte, Suriago Straight, Lingayen Gulf, and Okinawa. Transferred from USS California in August 1945. Subsequent assignments at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station, USS Missoula, USS Rendova, USS Siboney, and USS Saidor. Participated in Operation Crossroads, the 1946 atomic bomb testing at Bikini Atoll. Medals: WWII Victory, Philippine Liberation Medal with two stars, American Area Campaign, Asiatic-Pacific Area Campaign with four stars, and Good Conduct Medal.
