After being drafted he was assigned to the U.S. Army Air Corps, and after receiving his basic training aircraft maintenance he was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations and saw duty the Philippine Islands. With the surrender of Japan he was returned to the Fort Sam Houston, in San Antonio, Texas where he received his Honorable Discharge. During his tour he received the following commendations: WWII Victory Medal, the Philippine Liberation medal and the Good Conduct medal.
