He joined the Army at the age of twenty five at the Military Induction, Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas on 10 September 1940. He attended Basic training and advanced training in the Cooks and Bakers school in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He was assigned to the 786th Tank battalion and saw duty in Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He served until 4 November 1944 when he received his Honorable Discharge at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio. He received the good conduct medal, WWII Victory Medal and the American Defense medal.
