He was sworn into the U.S. Army Air Forces on 4 January 1942 at the Military induction center Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas and went on active duty. After basic training he was transferred to Camp Kilmer, New Jersey for additional training for duty in the European Theater of Operation. He shipped out of New York City on for Liverpool, England. He saw duty in England until 16 November 1944 and was transferred back to the United States to arrive in New York on 16 November. He was transferred to a hospital in Santa Fe, New Mexico where he was released with an honorable discharge on 5 May 1945. He completed 2 years 10 months and 12 days of service to this country. He received the European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.
