Enlisted in the Navy on 5/30/1942 at age of 20. Was a range finder assigned to the destroyer USS Preston. Went missing on 11/14/1942 when the Preston was sunk by the Japanese cruiser Nagara in the Solomon Islands in the South Pacific. He was lost along with 116 of his fellow crewmen.
