Rank: Sergeant. Inducted into the United States Marine Corps January 23, 1942 at Cleveland, Ohio, with recruit training assigned to the Fifth Recruit Battalion Training Regiment; Marine Corps Base San Diego, California. Upon his graduation from Boot Camp, he was transferred to Camp Pendleton Oceanside, California for combat training. Following basic and advanced infantry training, he served with Headquarters Company, Second Battalion, Eighth Marine Regiment a subordinate unit of the Second Marine Division. His division participated in the amphibious assault on the island of Tinian (Battle Dates: July 24–August 3, 1944) Northern Mariana Islands Campaign Location: Western Pacific Theater of Operations. Reported missing in action or buried at sea August 13, 1944. In remembrance of the brave, his name is permanently inscribed in the tablets of the missing, memorialized at the Honolulu National Memorial Location: Honolulu, Hawaii. In his Memory and Honor, a Cenotaph Memorial has been placed at the Green Springs Cemetery, Green Springs, Ohio. This American Patriot was awarded the Purple Heart posthumously, for his ultimate sacrifice in defense of his country.
