He was a Geologist for the Tidewater-Associated Oil Company (Flying A), working in the Ventura Oil Field. Oil and gas were such vital resources for the fighting men and women that it was more important that he remain in that capacity throughout the war. He simultaneously worked a small lemon orchard at night to help in food production.
