He served as a Gunner's Mate during WWII in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. He was stationed aboard the USS Suwanee (an Escort Carrier). He participated in the Battle of Leyte Gulf and the Battle of Okinawa, among the many sea battles it participated in. He continued his service after the war.
