He served in the U.S. Army, became an expert marksman and then an instructor. He had the distinguished honor of being chosen as a 'Sentinel', guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from 1938 to 1940. Received the Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal and the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal.
