Rank: First Lieutenant. A United States Marine Corps Pilot, who flew the Grumman F4F Fighter/Bomber. He served with the Marine Fighter Attack Squadron-122, VMFA-122 AKA: Flying Leathernecks, Marine Air Group-11 and Marine First Air Wing. His unit flew combat operations from an airstrip on the Peleliu Island Location: Western Pacific Theater of Operations. Reported missing in action, lost at sea December 1, 1944 when his aircraft was hit by Imperial Japanese anti-aircraft ground fire, while conducting a combat operation over Yap, Palau islands. His name is permanently inscribed in the tablets of the missing, memorialized at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial Location: Fort Bonifacio, Manila, Philippine Islands. This American Patriot received the following decorations posthumously: Air Medal and the Purple Heart. The Air Medal was awarded to the Lieutenant for meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight, and the Purple Heart for his ultimate sacrifice.
