Activity During WWII

He entered the Army at camp Upton, New York on June 15, 1943. He had his basic training at Greensboro, North Carolina and at Muroc, California. He was graduated from the Army Air Force Flexible Gunnery School at Laredo, Texas. He qualified as a bomber combat crewman in February of 1944. By August of that year he was in England and was given additional training. He was attached to the 8th Air Force with the 467th Bomber Group. Before the end of 1944, he had undertaken 35 missions over Germany. His ship was hit more than once and he made three crash landings. In early 1945, he was returned to the Convalescent Hospital at Bowman Field, Kentucky. He holds the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with four clusters, the Purple Heart and the European Theatre of Operations Ribbon. He was discharged on August 4, 1945.
