Activity During WWII

On February 4, 1942, he enlisted in the Naval Reserve and later became a Pharmacist's Mate. He was on duty in the South Pacific since June 1942 with the 310th Marine Corp Unit. He saw action in Guadalcanal, Tulagi, and New Caledonia. He was home at the St. Albans Naval Hospital, New York in late 1943 and received the Purple Heart in a formal ceremony. He had been wounded in heroic actions after four major invasions. He holds medals to show his devotion to duty in numerous areas of engagement. Earlier, at the Brooklyn Navy Base, and at Syracuse, he was a recruiter, and with a balloon squadron at Parris Island, South Carolina. He received his discharge in October of 1945.
