Activity During WWII

Just after his 17th birthday, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After boot camp in Ft. Peary, Virginia, he served as a Seaman aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ticonderoga CV-14, which he traveled to Pearl Harbor on its way to the South China Sea. There he was assigned to fire school before the carrier joined 10 others as part of Task Force 38 under Admiral Halsey. During a kamikaze attack, he was severely injured and eventually sent to a Guadalcanal hospital. He was a Purple Heart recipient.
