In January of 1942 he entered the Army Air Corps and began his basic training in South Carolina. He left for overseas in March of 1943. He took part in the Normandy Invasions and continued through France, Belgium and Germany. For the destruction of a Germany convoy, his Unit was awarded the Presidential Citation. On November 15, 1945, he was honorably discharged.
