Rank: Private First Class. Inducted into the United States Marine Corps September 22, 1942 at Rutland, Vermont, completing basic training with the Seventh Recruit Battalion Recruit Depot; Marine Barracks Parris Island, South Carolina. Upon his graduation from Boot Camp, he was transferred to Camp Geiger, North Carolina for combat training. Following infantry training, he served as a Rifleman with Golf Company, Third Battalion, Twenty-First Marine Regiment a subordinate unit of the Third Marine Division Location: Central Pacific Theater of Operations. His division participated in the amphibious assault on the Island of Guam (Dates of Battles: July 21-August 10, 1944) Code Name: Operation Forager. Saturday, July 22, 1944 he was mortally wounded, during combat operations against the Imperial Japanese forces, with burial in a battlefield cemetery on Guam. In the post-war era, his family requested that he be buried with Military Honors at Dellwood Cemetery Manchester, Vermont. This American Patriot was awarded the Purple Heart posthumously, for his ultimate sacrifice in defense of his country.
