He enlisted at the Presidio of Monterey, California on 28 June 1944. He served with the 86th "Blackhawk" Division, 332nd Field Artillery Battalion. His unit served in the Battle of the Bulge, into Munich, Bavaria and across the Danube. After returning to the States for a 30 day leave the 86th was deployed to Japan-a first for the War. He served in Manila, Philippine Islands as a scout and messenger. Decorations: Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.
