Pearl Thomas
He was a Rifleman in the 99th Infantry Division during the decisive 1945 Battle of the Bulge in Belgium where he fought from a slit trench for nine weeks during a brutal winter to help defend the Eisenhorn Ridge, the only segment of the U.S. defensive line never breached by German Army attacks. He then fought in various campaigns right to the end of the war and was involved in the liberation of the Dachau Concentration Camp in Germany. For his war-time service, he was awarded both the bronze Star and the New Jersey Distinguished Service Medal.
